Rockhound Brewing Co – Madison, WI – 444 South Park St
Enjoyed lunch at Rockhound Brewing today on the last day of Madison Restaurant Week. ($15 per person for a three course meal)
First Course: Wedge Salad and Fried Pickles.
The wedge salad had pickled shitake mushrooms, shaved carrots, thinly sliced radishes and feta cheese. The dressing was a sweet smoked paprika ranch. All the flavors blended nicely.
The fried pickles were large crisp and garlicky with just enough batter. Not too thick, not too thin. The dipping sauce was the same as the dressing on the wedge salad.
Second Course: Falafel Sandwich and a Cheeseburger Grilled Cheese.
The falafel was topped with spinach, hummus, kalamata olives and tzatziki sauce. Very tasty and flavorful. Although a bit light on the tzatzki, I had to ask for more.
The cheeseburger grilled cheese reminded me of a patty melt more than a grilled cheese. The taste was identical to a cheeseburger. Nestled between to pieces of toasted bread you found, melty cheddar and swiss; a grilled ground beef patty; grilled onions, sliced pickles and just enough garlic aioli.
Dessert: Brandy Old Fashioned Cheesecake from Looking Glass Bakery. In a word – – DELICIOUS! A smooth, creamy cheese cake about the size of a muffin. It was perfect. I will have to be sure to stop by this bakery to explore more of their tasty treats.
