Salvatore’s Tomato Pies – 121 E Main St, Sun Prairie, WI
The husband and I found ourselves in Sun Prairie just in time for an early dinner. I was very excited to head to Salvatore’s Tomato Pies.
We arrive just in time to score a table in the front window. The last table available, the next people to arrive are put on a waiting list, they head to the bar.
We started with the Herb n’ Cheese Bread. Its hot from the oven with herbed garlic butter, mozzarella, smoked gouda and garlic confit. Its like a mini sandwich.
For our main course we share a specialty pie: Farmer John’s Smoked Gouda. Heirloom tomato, bacon, mushroom, smoked gouda and caramelized onion.
It was delicious. Hot and bubbly straight from the “oven”. What the menu description didn’t mention, but that we were happy to see, whole roasted garlic cloves and a tiny sprinkling of basil chiffonade.
We shared a 10″ which with the app was more than enough for two.
The atmosphere is hip and casual. The wait staff helpful and friendly.
They seem to do a brisk carryout business. During the time we were there we saw several pick up orders go out the door.
If you find yourself in Sun Prairie and are hungry for pizza, head downtown. My guess is that you will not be disappointed.
